Projects

Blue World cooperates with many other institutions, NGOs and authorities on the development of conservation policies for the protection of the Adriatic Sea.

Blue World is undertaking a study into the use patterns of cetaceans in the proposed marine Natura 2000 sites in Croatia. Specifically Blue World will contact the management institutions of the protected areas to undertake survey work. Already we have information about the Kornati region and Lastovo regions.

Blue World was involved in the development of the designation of the Cres-Lošinj Marine Protected Area, the first of its kind in the Mediterranean Sea. Blue World complied information from the Centre for Marine Research of the Ruder Boškovic Institute and the Natural History Museum, in Rijeka. The goal of the Reserve is to establish the largest multiple use marine protected area in the Adriatic Sea, allowing for the conservation of dolphins and the sustainable use of the marine resources by the local community and visitors.

Much of the science Blue World has written since its formation in 1999 has been used to help develop the Croatian National Ecological Network (CroNEN), this is part of Croatian commitments to the Bern Convention on the Conservation of Flora and Fauna of the European Continent, generally regarded as a forerunner to the Habitats Directive and Natura 2000 sites.
