The 18th Dolphin Day was celebrated on the 7th August 2010 in Veli Lošinj, sponsored by the Tourist Board of the City of Mali Lošinj. The day was attended by Mrs Đurđica Šimičić, head of the tourist board and Mayor and Mrs Cappelli.

The day was highlighted by an unprecedented interest of local and visiting children to participate in the day. In the treasure hunt, while the usual number of participants in the previous years was about 60 children, this year around 100 children took part in the game. The atmosphere was electric and it became apparent that the seven stations, with exciting tasks for all competitors, were simply not enough. Next year we hope to introduce a lot more tasks to this popular game that has become a trademark of Dolphin Day

The exhibition of children's art works this year was also exception. This year, the exhibition presented 358 children's drawings, and a jury had their hands full in deciding the winner. Eventually the winner was Lovro Matek from primary school Eugena Kumičića from Rijeka. Lovro will receive well-deserved prize, and maybe this beautiful drawing will be printed one day on the T-shirts in the Lošinj Marine Education Centre.

The art workshops were also very well attended and the square in front of the Lošinj Marine Education Centre was simply too small for all little artists. This year we had a workshop painting cotton bags where we had great help from mothers of small artists and we would like to use this opportunity to thank them. There was also a body painting workshop so we had many happy visitors adorned with decorative tattoos and markings. But, the youngest visitors preferred to use chalks for painting the street, whilst others used water colors and pastels. Finally there were small artists who were preparing cakes and figurines from the plasticine.

In the evening, the Blue World water polo team: Mateja Zekan, Vladimir Dobrić, Tomislav Panjol-Tuflija, Marko Radulović, and Igor Švedić, bravely took part in a wild water polo league that was organized by Water polo Club Lošinj Jazon in the port of Veli Losinj.

In the evening, for all fans of the sea we organized a projection of the film "Open Sea" made by Blue World as part of the recently completed PHARE project. In addition we projected extra footage of the Lošinj dolphins made from the Blue World research boat.

Once again, we thank all the volunteers who help us every year on this important event, their work enables us to continue this traditional festival every year. Maybe next year you would like to volunteer? At the end of another successful Dolphin Day, we started planning the next, we hope to see you at the 19th Dolphin Day in 2011.
