Blue World Youth Club
Since the beginning of June, Rijeka has a new Youth Club, Blue World Youth Club, funded by the World Bank. The Club, gathering young people from 18-30 years of age, will focus on two goals - education and action. Club members will learn about biological diversity and ecology, but they will also pass on the knowledge to elementary and high school students in Rijeka, through lectures and workshops. They will participate in nature conservation actions, be involved during the important environmental days (such as Earth Day or World Water Day) and attend seminars and youth exchanges.
First job of the Youth Club was a lecture given in Elementary School Vladimir Gortan in Rijeka, as a part of the School Day Celebration.
July was a very busy time for the Club because of the participation in Youth Exchanges and Seminars abroad, financed by the Youth in Action Program. Youth Exchange in Kirsehir, Turkey, from 4th-10th of July, was focused on the Small Steps for Better Environment where participants from seven countries (Albania, Romania, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Croatia, Tunisia and Italy) discussed common environmental problems and their possible solutions.
From 13th-17th of July, Belgium, Brussels brought Youth of European’s Rocks together where participants from Member States and EU Candidate countries discussed about life on the islands, advantages as well as disadvantages and actions that would enrich lives of youth. Club represented Island of Lošinj, and Croatia was represented with Murter as well. Other countries participating in the seminar were Spain (Mallorca and Tenerife), United Kingdom (British Virgin Islands), France (St. Martine, Guadeloupe, La Reunion, Martinique), Portugal (Sao Miguel, Sao Jorge, Madeira), Finland (Vänö) and Malta.
At the end of July, from 19th to 29th, Blue World participated as one of the organizer of a Youth Exchange, along with Slovenian youth. Participants from Ukraine, Russia, Germany, Slovenia and Croatia had a chance to enjoy beauties of Velenje, Slovenia and Veli Lošinj, Croatia while exchanging ideas and contacts for future youth actions.
Starting September with the new school year, after the summer break, more lectures, youth actions, seminars and exchanges await the Club. If you are interested in joining the Club or cooperation please contact Vlasta Pavicic via e-mail (vlasta.pavicic@gmail.com) or phone +385 91/444 34 84.
