You can join us for student practical work

The Blue World Institute welcomes students from many different disciplines related to marine science and conservation and to join us for student practical work. As students you will participate in all our activities including: ongoing research taking place in the Lošinj Marine Educational Centre and in the field, giving and participating in lectures, collaborating with other interns, our volunteer team and the staff of the Blue World Institute. Subsidized accommodation is provided at our research base in Veli Lošinj , with everything you need for living (towels, sheets, kitchen utensils). You will share daily duties like cooking or housekeeping with other students. Living in the house is often a continuation of the working day so it is very important that you can balance work, life and group interactions. It is also important that you are able to accept and respect differences among people and cooperate in conditions that can sometimes be difficult. Treat others like you want to be treated. Our team members come from many different countries, which is why the official language is English.

  • The BWI does not provide internships as commercial, profit making service. Internships is organised as a training course offered to the BWI members and the amount charged is to cover course expenses. Hence, along with your request to participate you will be required to fill in the BWI membership form once you arrive. Your membership will last for one year. The BWI aims to process your request for internship within five (5) working days of receipt of an online form Monday to Friday (Central European Time). However, to permit for all eventualities please allow up to 14 days for e-mail notification. After notification, the BWI internship coordinator will organise a Skype interview with eligible applicants and inform them of their acceptance in the project within five (5) days after the interview is held. The applicants need to confirm their participation five (5) days from receiving an acceptance e-mail, otherwise acceptance will be considered rejected. Each intern that confirms participation needs to pay a course deposit of 20% of the total amount, 3 months before arrival. In case of cancelation up to 3 months of commencement, the money will be refunded. However, the BWI will not refund received payment if your cancellation is less than 3 months. An exception is a case of illness, which needs to be documented with medical records. Notice of cancellation will be accepted if you send it by electronic mail to the internship coordinator. The BWI will fully refund the cost of the course in case of a cancellation due to technical or logistical reasons. The BWI will not be held responsible for any other resulting damages beyond the cost of the course. If you do not agree with these terms and conditions then you can’t apply for participation in the programme. For privacy policies please see Terms of Use.
