As part of the “Green Weekend” event on the island of Lošinj, held from April 10 to 12, 2026, the traditional seabed clean-up action titled “The sea knows, the island never forgets” took place.
This year’s three-day initiative brought together a total of 150 volunteers, including 68 divers. During the clean-up, as much as 15 m³ of waste was removed from the seabed. We were especially pleased by the strong turnout of participants who chose to spend their weekend on Lošinj specifically to contribute to this important environmental effort.
In addition to the already established clean-up locations in the Mali Lošinj harbor and Čikat Bay, this year the action was expanded to include Veli Žal Bay. There, divers were supported by the autonomous vessel FAUST V, which scans the seabed in real time and assists in accurately locating marine litter.
The vessel was presented by our special guests from the DIH Innovamare association from Rijeka. On the first day of the event, they also held an educational workshop for children of the Mali Lošinj Elementary School as part of the “Clean Bluing” project, aimed at raising awareness about the issue of marine litter.
The clean-up action was organized by the Blue World Institute and the Subseason diving center, in cooperation with the Mali Lošinj Tourist Board, the City of Mali Lošinj, Jadranka d.d., and numerous partners from the local community.
