Conservation is the application of science to the preservation or restoration of an environment from loss, damage or neglect. At the Blue World Institute we believe that to do science alone does not fulfill our commitment to the environment. Conservation requires that we analyse human actions on the environment and try to mitigate any damage that is done.

Conservation does not mean prohibition, it requires that the protection of species and habitats is balanced with their sustainable use. Sustainable use, or sustainable development, is based on the three pillars of society: ecology, economics and social. It is only through considering all these aspect in an inter-disciplinary manner that the long-term conservation of the Croatian Adriatic can be achieved.
