During the 2024/2025 school year, in partnership with the Mario Martinolić Elementary School and the ‘Cvrčak’ kindergarten from Mali Lošinj, we are implementing the project ‘About the sea, by the sea’ funded by the Ministry of Regional Development and EU funds.

One of the project activities was the organization of a boat trip to the island of Unije for fourth-grade students. Given that it was a beautiful September day, the success of this field trip was guaranteed. On Unije, participants got to know the rich cultural and natural heritage of this most remote island of the Lošinj archipelago, known for its exceptional biodiversity.
We paid special attention to the queen of the undersea world – the seagrass posidonia, whose drifts adorn the coasts of Unije.

It was an excellent opportunity to introduce children to a new project to protect posidonia meadows on the island of Lošinj, which the Blue World Institute is implementing in cooperation with the American organization Seacology. At the beach, we held a workshop for students through which they learned about this extremely important plant, its biology and ecology, and the importance of its conservation.
