At the initiative of the Blue World Institute, a meeting was held with local stakeholders in the premises of the City of Mali Lošinj on the topic of challenges and good practices in dealing with injured and dead sentinel species in our area. Sentinel species are those species that are particularly sensitive to environmental changes, so their presence, absence or condition can indicate the quality of the ecosystem in which they live. In our case, these are dolphins and sea turtles, and the participants were introduced to the current legal frameworks and protocols for dealing with these species. After everyone presented their examples and experiences, the possibilities of improving existing practices and proposing more efficient solutions were discussed.
The implementation of the SAMESEA project – SustainAble Management of marinE Sentinel spEcies and human Activities interactions, was co-financed by the INTERREG IPA Adrion program. In addition to the Blue World Institute, it is implemented by 10 other partner organizations from all countries of the Adriatic-Ionian region (Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and Greece).
Project is co-financed by the Government Office for Cooperation with NGOs. The views in this text are the sole responsability of Blue World Institute and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the Government Office for Cooperation with NGOs.
