The Blue World Institute is running different research projects in collaboration with scientists from partnering organizations, internship students and eco-volunteers. To ensure a comfortable stay for these people when conducting field work, we started a project by purchasing and refurbishing a flat in Veli Lošinj.

We are proudly introducing the flat right on the 20th anniversary of the Blue World Institute. The whole realization took us two years from the purchase to moving in. The flat was completely refurbished thanks to the generosity of our donors who donated resources for the extensive renovation, adaptation and furnishing.

The flat is located in the old town, within walking distance from our administrative headquarters, Lošinj Marine Education Centre, research offices and harbour. A Mediterranean garden and a terrace with a view is the best reward after a day working in the office or intensive field work. Flat mates share a spacious kitchen with a dining room, living room and two bathrooms as well as five bedrooms equipped according to short or mid-term stay needs.

We truly appreciate the support of:

  • Zagrebačka pivovara – Famous Croatian brewery which ran the Ožujsko beer campaign called `Animals protected by law`; their funds were invested in the extensive renovation and adaptation
  • Unforgettable Croatia – luxury tour operator with a firm commitment to sustainability; the donation was allocated to the final refurbishment stage works
  • Emmezeta – well known furniture and household appliances retail chain which passionately supports conservation of nature and education activities; carefully designed furnishing and donated complete furniture and household appliances

The team spirit among the Blue World Institute members was the biggest added value during the whole process as each one contributed and helped in different phases.
