This weekend we celebrate 25th Dolphin day! Additionally, this year Blue World Institute is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Adriatic Dolphin Project. For this special occasion, we are preparing 2 days of interesting events to highlight the longevity of our work on research and conservation of dolphins and the entire marine environment.

On the first day of the celebration, on Friday 30th of June, at the Lošinj Marine Education Center in Veli Lošinj we will present the work of the Blue World Institute through the lectures on the Adriatic Dolphin Project, the Sea Turtles and the implementation of the LIFE Euroturtles project and the retrospective of the past 25 Dolphin days. The same evening, we will present the exhibition of designer jewelry from the recycled materials and the mosaic bench in front of the Lošinj Marine Education Center, made by our friends from the Center for healthy growing “Idem i ja” as a gift for the 25th Dolphin Day. The first day program will finish with the movie night in our Center – the projection of Blue World Institute’s documentary films and video material.

On Saturday, July 1st, the traditional celebration will be organized as entertainment, arts and sports event. This year we will host three exhibitions of artworks – the exhibition of children’s drawings, the exhibition of students of the School of Applied Arts from Zagreb and the exhibition of the Blue World Institute’s Art Collection. Also, as every year, there will be organized an educational game for children “The treasure hunt”, Art workshops for children and for the first time, “Forgotten games” presentation of the open air games for children. In the afternoon there will be swimming competition and a water polo tournament in Rovenska bay.

For the Adriatic Dolphin Project and Dolphin Day presence in the local community was always very important. Therefore, we decided to prepare something for all the citizens of the Lošinj island and to organize the painting of the side wall of the local kindergarten in Mali Lošinj in cooperation with contemporary artist Slaven Kosanović Lunar.

The highlight of the celebration of 25th Dolphin Day will be presentation of the Blue World Institute’s Art Collection at the Lošinj Marine Education Center. The collection consists of graphics done by eight Croatian artists – Tomislav Buntak, Vice Tomasović, Zdenko Bašić, Andrea Resner, Vojin Hraste, Slaven Kosanović Lunar, Sebastijan Dračić and Vendi Vernić, who recognized the value of the Blue World Institute’s work and decided to donate their art works inspired by the sea as a support to our organization and as a 25th Dolphin Day gift. The graphics are printed in a limited edition and will be available for sale in order to raise funds for the Blue World Institute. This unique concept of art and science synergy was presented to the public at exhibitions at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka and at the Art Gallery in Split whit great success.

The celebration of 25th Dolphin Day will end with the concert of the Rundek Cargo Trio at the square in front of the Lošinj Marine Education Center.

We believe that among all these activities everyone can find something for themselves and you will join us in a large number!
