On Saturday, November 16, 2024, the Blue World Institute, in cooperation with the diving center Subseason, the City of Mali Lošinj, LAGUR Vela vrata and the association of professional fishermen ‘Ježinac’, organized an action to clean up the sea in the Sveti Martin fishing harbor in Mali Lošinj. Despite the windy weather, 12 divers participated in the action with the technical support of 30 volunteers on the shore. In total, about 3 m3 of different waste was collected, among which glass bottles and parts of fishing gear from boats (discarded fishing nets and ropes, remnants of nets, etc.) stood out. All collected waste was properly disposed of by the company Komunalne usluge Cres-Lošinj. For all the participants of the action, a well-deserved joint lunch was organized at the site.

This action was held as part of the LIFE DELFI project, co-financed by the EU, which aims to reduce negative interactions between dolphins and fishing activities. One of the goals of this project is to raise public awareness of this problem and to promote sustainable solutions for the preservation of the marine ecosystem. In this way, the cooperation achieved with local fishermen during the 5 years of the project was crowned with a joint action for the benefit of the marine environment.
