On the European Commission’s call on „Sustainable Blue Economy“, Blue World Institute with partners submitted project „marGnet: Mapping and recycling of marine litter and Ghost nets on the sea-floor“. Project has successfully passed the evaluation phase so Grant agreement (EASME/EMFF/2017/1.2.1.12/S2/05/SI2.789314) has been signed during December. Funds for this project have been allocated through the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF). With total of 14,5 mil Eur 22 projects will be funded and our project is one of only five funded in the category „Fighting marine litter“.
The aim of marGnet is to set up and test multi-level solutions to monitor, map, prevent, remove and recycle marine litter from sea-based sources present on the seafloor. Project will last 24 months and it is starting on 1. January 2019. Total value of project activities is 611.792 Eur, and the European Commission co-funds 80% or 488.575 Eur. Project coordinator is Italian National Research Council’s Institute of Marine Sciences (CNR-ISMAR). Blue World Institute is the only Croatian partner while other Italian partners are Laguna Project s.n.c, SINTOL srl and Techneprojects srls.
