During the weekend of 9th and 10th of April 2022 the Blue World Institute and the Subseason Diving Center in collaboration with the Mali Lošinj Tourist Board, the City of Mali Lošinj and the Jadranka turizam company organized a traditional action of cleaning the seabed and the coast on the island of Lošinj called “The Sea Knows, the Island Remembers“. This year, the action grew into a significantly larger event in which a total of 360 volunteers took part and removed more than 30 m3 of waste. From the seabed of Mali Lošinj port, 54 divers with the technical support of 62 volunteers on the boats and on the coast collected about 15 m3 of various waste among which mostly car tires and glass bottles. Among local divers and volunteers, members of SRD Udica stood out in numbers. At the same time, 90 employees of the Jadranka turizam company, 44 Lošinj high school students and members of the association “Idem i ja” collected an additional 8 m3 of waste on the coast at move from Velopin to Borik. Local board Veli Lošinj gathered about thirty volunteers in the action of cleaning the promenade and the coast from Feral to Rovenska of vegetation and waste, while about thirty hunters and mountaineers from Halmac hunting society and Osorščica mountaineering society cleaned and arranged 2 km of neglected trails from Osor to Trzic. In Čikat Bay, 45 divers and about fifty volunteers from the Blue World Institute, Water Polo Club Lošinj and Sailing Club Jugo removed an additional 7 m3 of waste from the seabed and the surrounding forest.

After such an active weekend, our island is lighter by a few tons of waste. Thank you all for participating!
