CELEBRATION OF WORLD SEA TURTLE DAY 2024 WITHIN THE “ISLANDS IN THE SEA OF KNOWLEDGE” PROJECT
This year’s World Sea Turtle Day was celebrated by releasing the recovered loggerhead turtle Tamara into the sea. After successful recovery from emaciation and exhaustion, Tamara was seen off Borik beach by several dozen spectators.
This opportunity was also used for education and raising of public awareness of the need to protect sea turtles by setting up an educational exhibition on the biology and ecology of sea turtles with an emphasis on their life cycle, the most important threats they face and the role of the rescue centres in protecting these endangered species. Also, an educational boat trip was organized for group of children from the island of Lošinj.
The event was organized as part of the implementation of the project “Islands in the Sea of Knowledge”. Project is co-funded by the European Union from the European Social Fund. The content of this publication is the sole responsibility of the Blue World Institute.
